UXBRIDGE— Superintendent Michael Baldassarre is pleased to announce that Uxbridge High School has been awarded a $142,000 Skills Capital Grant, courtesy of the Healey-Driscoll administration.

On Monday, June 10, nearly $15 million in Skills Capital Grants were awarded to schools across the state to support them in upgrading technology and instructional lab spaces, expanding career programs for young people and adults, and increasing capacity in workforce training programs across Massachusetts.

The $142,000 in funding will be used to support enhancements to Uxbridge High School’s five pathways in education, manufacturing, biotech, business and finance, and information science. Plans for the funds include renovating labs, updating computer hardware and software, and purchasing new industry-standard machinery and tools. Uxbridge High Scool has now received seven Skills Capital Grants totaling more than $990,000 since 2018.

In the past, these grants have purchased and supported equipment enhancements such as 3D printers, bench mills, CNC routers, laser engravers, computer lab upgrades, engineering and technology tools for all three schools in the district, touch views, cameras, robotic arms, tool chests, motion capture technology, information monitors, translation devices, projection technology, heat presses, business and information tickers, drones, transportation vehicles and classroom furniture upgrades throughout the district.

The Skills Capital Grants are awarded by the state’s Workforce Skills Cabinet, which aligns education, economic development, and workforce policies to meet employers’ demand for skilled workers in every region of Massachusetts. The competitive grants are awarded to educational institutions demonstrating partnerships with local businesses and aligning curriculum and credentials with industry demand to maximize hiring opportunities.

“We are extremely fortunate to receive this grant,” said Superintendent Baldassarre. “The Workforce Skills Cabinet has been a fantastic resource for us to enhance our curriculum at Uxbridge High School and to keep our schools cutting-edge with the programs we provide.”
