Pizza delivery purchase led deputies credit card fraud suspect in Pawleys Island – Notice Important Online

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (WMBF) – A craving for some pizza is what helped the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office uncover a suspected credit card fraud scheme.

The sheriff’s office announced Wednesday that a 17-year-old was charged with financial transaction card fraud after they were accused of taking pictures of customers’ credit cards at the McDonalds in Pawleys Island. The teen’s name has not been released due to her age.

Now a newly released report reveals how a deputy tracked down the suspect.

The deputy was called on Wednesday to a Dominos Pizza along Ocean Highway where he met with a man who said someone was trying to use his wife’s credit card at the restaurant and have it delivered to a Dairy Queen in Pawleys Island.

According to the report, the husband said his wife had used the credit card on Monday to buy food at the McDonald’s in Pawleys Island. He said he believed that’s where the credit card information was stolen because the McDonalds is next to the Dairy Queen.

The husband also told the deputy that the suspect charged over $250 to a children’s clothing store in England that went through.

The employee at Dominos Pizza gave the deputy the receipt for the pizza delivery and the phone number that was used. The deputy tried to call the phone number but no one answer.

The deputy then went to McDonald’s where he spoke to the manager who confirmed that two young people were working the drive-through and confirmed the phone number belonged to one of the employees.

“I was then advised that she also worked next door at Dairy Queen and was currently working over there now, and was about to come to work there,” the incident report states.

When the suspect came into work, the report states the deputy interviewed her but she denied any wrongdoing.

Documents show the deputy then asked to see surveillance video taken from the drive-through “where you could see the suspect taking pictures with her cell phone of peoples (sic) credit cards as they handed them to her through the drive through (sic) window.”

The suspect was charged and released to family members and given a court date.

The investigation into the suspected credit card scheme is ongoing.
