JOPLIN, Mo. — Friday morning’s global tech outage involving Microsoft and Crowdstrike has made its way to local government agencies.

The Kansas Office of Information Technology Services (OITS) confirms Crowdstrike deployed an update late Thursday evening and into early morning of Friday (7/19), impacting services for its executive branch agencies.

Hospitals, airlines, banks, and even 911 services have reported internet disruptions.

Counties across the State of Kansas are dealing with issues registering motor vehicles into their systems as well as issuing driver’s licenses.

The Crawford County Treasurer is reporting a much less busy day than usual because of the outage.

“We’ve kind of just been dead in the water on title transactions or vehicle registrations. Fridays and Mondays are usually our busiest days of the week. If we’re down all day today and let’s say they get it up Monday, it means we’re going to be twice as busy on Monday that we normally would be,” said Crawford County Treasurer, Joe Grisolano.

“But it’s really just a good reminder for all of us and for those that are impacted, our hearts go out to them and it’s impacting a lot down that supply chain. So we were talking about different county offices and airlines and many businesses impacted by this bug. And so it’s really just a matter of giving some patience,” said Stronghold Data President, David Markley.

A release from OITS reiterates today’s incident was not a cyber security attack and there is no threat to life safety services. Services continue to be restored online, but they cannot provide an estimated time for each service’s restoration.
